Where can I get a quilt like the Little House On The Prairie one?

In the 1970s television show ‘Little House On The Prairie’, Laura and Mary have a Patchwork Quilt on their bed. It’s mainly in blues, reds and whites. Every time it’s shown, my mother talks about how much she loves it. It’s her birthday soon and I’d love to buy a replica for her, but I can’t find it on the internet. Does anyone know where I could get one (UK preferably) or where I could find similar materials and stuff to make one? Thanks in advance (:

To find one like that is going to be an almost impossible task! I’m sure there is one somewhere, but it will take a long time to find it.

You can make it yourself, with a lot of work. It is not an easy job. You really need the help of a few people to do it properly. These were not usually a one-person job.

Find a local quilters group. Ask at the fabric store. Every town has one. They may meet informally, a social group, but you will learn a lot too. If you are in a larger city, you could take a class.

But all this means a lot of time, and work. You will not be able to finish a quilt in time for your mother’s birthday this year, but aim for next year.

For a patchwork quilt, you need fabric pieces, or “patches”. You can collect old clothing in the colours you like, and cut them apart into the sizes you want, and then sew it all together. Or you can buy yards of material, and cut it up. There are some kits with the pieces already cut. This will take a very long time!! And expense. Then you have to add some filling and a backing, and stitch it together. Not an easy job, but great when it is done. I’m sure your mother will love it — and you will have learned an exciting and very rewarding hobby.
